BIOGRAPHY:
Blues guitarist Jimmy Adler is a live-wire entertainer that packs passion and energy into every performance! His music is a blend of Chicago Blues and West Coast Jazzy Jump. His passionate, rough-edged vocals compliment his spirited playing. Jimmy Adler is noted for his stingingly sweet slide guitar, as well as his elegant phrasing and clean fat tone. The Jimmy Adler Band channels the essence of the blues. Audiences cannot help but to respond to the passion and spontaneity of their live shows and they are a favorite among the swing dance crowd.

Jimmy taught himself to play guitar at the age of fifteen. He was heavily influenced by Eric Clapton’s early recordings. Not surprisingly, In Pittsburgh Magazine has said, “Adler’s Claptonesque leads will appeal to the modern blues lover…” Through Clapton and early Rolling Stones records, Jimmy discovered the blues of Jimmy Reed, B.B. King, and Elmore James. He used to sit for hours with a whiskey bottleneck that he cut with a special glass saw and attached to his finger, emulating the sounds of Elmore James. The editor of BluesBiz.com has stated, “If you like bad to the bone slide guitar, don’t miss [a Jimmy Adler] show!” Jimmy later discovered the sophisticated stylings of T-Bone Walker, Little Charlie Baty, and Duke Robillard. These players have inspired Jimmy to add a swinging sound to his music that keeps swing dancers on the dance floor.

These influences can be heard on the Jimmy Adler CD, "Absolutely Blues! Live at the Boneyard". This CD contains 8 originals and 5 classic gems. George Raker of The Front explains, “The disc falls into the category of post WWII blues, but also contains elements of swing and New Orleans jazz.” It was featured on the “Blues and Rhythm” show on Pittsburgh’s WYEP 91.3 FM radio station where it remains in steady rotation on their blues programs. Blues Revue Magazine states that “Absolutely Blues! Live at the Boneyard offers guaranteed excitement for fans of straight ahead blues guitar.”

Released in the fall of 2008 is the new CD "Swing it Around".
This new recording features more of Adler’s swinging guitar, well-crafted song writing by Adler and Mike Sweeney, and the welcome addition of Eric Spaulding’s honking saxophone.

For years Jimmy has lent his talents to a variety of Western Pennsylvania’s most prominent blues bands. However, it is as a leader of his own band where he really displays the full breadth of his experience and musical ability. The Jimmy Adler Band plays regularly at a multitude of clubs throughout Western Pennsylvania and has also performed at many outdoor festivals, including: Pittsburgh Blues Festival, Carnegie Blues Festival, Indiana New Growth Arts and Heritage Festival, Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival, Wheeling Heritage BluesFest, and the Johnstown FolkFest. In addition, the band is a featured favorite at local Swing City dances in Pittsburgh. Jimmy has also had the honor of playing his guitar with Tommy Castro, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Hubert Sumlin, Magic Dick (J Geils) and other respected and legendary blues musicians.

Pick up the new CD and experience the passionate spontaneity of the Jimmy Adler Band.

Jimmy,

Thank you for the well wishes :) I hope to see you stop by soon - we'll have to play "Stop Your Sobbing", which I'm hoping we're going to add to the set.

See ya around,
Katie

Hey man - how's your voice? I think I told you everything that's going on with The New Deal last Saturday. I hope your voice didn't suffer too much.

Hi Jim and thanks for attending our first showing at Little E's. Your attendance along with a decent sized crowd has nailed our spot for future on-going performances there. We had some minor techno difficulties with their sophisticated house system but, we should be in better form for our upcoming January 23, 2009 scheduled date there. It's great to see you getting the hang of our cool network and it's features. Take care bro, Dave Yoho

I know, I know, I'm late to the game with this site. haha

Have you ever checked out the jam session at The Royal Place on Rt. 88? It's on Tuesdays, and it's pretty cool. I plan on checking it out this week, since I finally have my voice back in shape. Or at least for the most part.

Well, hope to see ya around, Jimmy. We'll have to do one of those old Pretenders numbers sometime soon :)

Katie
