BIOGRAPHY:
Founder of a Brazilian Radio Hour on WRCT 88.3 FM. In 1999 the Brazilian Hour was a monthly hourly program and part of the Latin American Radio Magazine. In 2004 it grew to a weekly independent show. The program is broadcast in English and Portuguese every Friday at 6:00 pm and serves Pittsburgh by bringing Brazilian music as well as unique themes, news, event information, promotions and special interviews. Some important names that have appeared on the show include former Brazilian President Jose Sarney and artists such as Jorge Ben Jor, Daniela Mercury, Daniel Jobim, Beth Carvalho, Araketu, Terra Samba, the Mosquitos, Angelique Kidjo, Plena Libre and many more. The program collaborates with organizations such as the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Pittsburgh City Theater, Guitar Society of Fine Arts and the Latin American Cultural Union (LACU) in promoting events, artists and music.
Founder, Promoter and DJ of Global Beats: an initiative to build bridges across different cultures through world music. Global Beats hosts special themed events, such as the 2006 World Cup Kickoff Event. It works with local ethnic organizations such as Colombia en Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Asian American Young Professional Association (PAAYPA), Turkish Professional Association, Iranian Organization, CMU Graduate Student Organization and others. In the Fall of 2006 Global Beats joined forces with Putumayo, one of the strongest world music labels in the industry. GB was awarded grants from the Heinz Endowments Small Arts Initiative through a partnership with the Guitar Society of Fine Arts and one from the Multicultural Arts Initiative through a partnership with PUMP organization. On June 27th GB hosted its first ever outdoor music performances as part of the Stay and Play series in Market Square bringing renowned artists: Nation Beat from NYC and Javier Garcia from Miami. In September 2008 Global Beats became part of the “Late Night Series” presente by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Plans are underway to host a New Year’s Eve party in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust in the Cabaret Theater, in the cultural district of Pittsburgh.
